Transition Towns

An environmental and social movement that tries to equip communities for the challenges of peak oil and climate change. A movement to try to reduce our dependence on oil, to help us achieve a self-sufficent life, to become resilients. It was born in Kinsale, Irlanda and spread to England, where Totnes became in 2005-2006 the first demo transition town.

J.Krishnamurti

"If you have to create a new world, a new civilization, a new art, everything new, not contaminated by tradition, by fear, by ambitions, if you have to create something anonymous which is yours and mine, a new society, together, in which there is not you and me but an "ourness," must there not be a mind which is completely anonymous, therefore alone? This implies, does it not, that there must be a revolt against conformity, a revolt against respectability, because the respectable man is the mediocre man because he wants something, he is dependent on influence for his happiness, on what his neighbor thinks, on what his guru thinks, on what the Bhagavad-Gita or the Upanishads or the Bible or the Christ says. His mind is never alone. He never walks alone, but he always walks with a companion, the companion of his ideas.

Is it not important to find out, to see, the whole significance of interference, of influence, the establishment of the 'me', which is the contradiction of the anonymous? Seeing the whole of that, does not the question inevitably arise: Is it possible immediately to bring about that state of mind which is not influenced, which cannot be influenced by its own experience or by the experience of others, a mind which is incorruptible, which is alone? Then only is there a possibility of bringing about a different world, a different culture, a different society in which happiness is possible. "

Eneropa

Can you imagine a Europe in which each region could generate its own energy, depending of what their geosystem could allow them to? Can you imagine that the energy we consume was not brought from thousand of miles away? Could you imagine the grid would be designed so that each region could be self-sufficient? Could you imagine different names for each region depending on the type of energy they generated?

The Arabian nights - Introduction

The Book of The Thousand Nights And A Night - Translation by Richard F. Burton

In the Name of Allah, the Compassionating, the Compassionate!

Praise Be to Allah
The Beneficent King
The Creator of the
Universe
Lord of the Three Worlds
Who Set Up the Firmament Without Pillars in Its Stead
and Who Stretched Out the Earth Even As A Bed
and Grace, and Prayer-Blessing Be Upon Our Lord Mohammed
Lord of Apostolic Men
and Upon his Family and Companion Train
Prayer and Blessings Enduring and Grace Which Unto the Day of Doom Shall Remain
Amen!
O Thou of the Three Worlds Sovereign!

And afterwards. Verily the works and words of those gone before us have become instances and examples to men of our modern day, that folk may view what admonishing chances befel other folk and may therefrom take warning; and that they may peruse the annals of antique peoples and all that hath betided them, and be thereby ruled and restrained: Praise, therefore, be to Him who hath made the histories of the Past an admonition unto the Present! Now of such instances are the tales called “A Thousand Nights and a Night,” together with their far famed legends and wonders.

Three-legged camels

A perfect way to avoid breakouts. A three-legged camel can't walk.

They are not as dab hands as in the video, but are using the same method.

Masanobu Fukoaka

Masanobu Fukoaka brought the 'do nothing' (wu wei) principle of taoism to the agriculture.

His philosophy has a lot in common with permaculture. Although he didn't consider himself part of this movement, he did persue very simmilar objectives: taking care of the Earth and the human beings. Healing the soil to avoid innecesary work to the farmers that in many cases is also agressive with the environment.

His ideas are explained in the book "The one straw revolution".
